Spirits giant Diageo has announced the launch of the limited edition Oban Aged 15 Years Port Cask Finish. This Single Malt, bottled at 52.1% ABV, is the second masterpiece in the brand's cask finish series. It showcases the distillery's exquisite craftsmanship while connecting the maritime histories of Scotland and Portugal, perfectly blending two winemaking traditions and continuing the legacy between whisky and fortified wine.
This expression is inspired by the shared coastal heritage of Oban and Porto, Portugal. Maritime trade shaped the unique spirit styles of both regions. The bottle packaging depicts a bay landscape where McCaig’s Tower and the distillery buildings are clearly visible. This "Port to Port" spirit of exchange allows the sweetness of the Port cask to complement the distillery's maritime character, presenting a design full of narrative depth.
A Palate Symphony of Maritime Character and Port Depth
On the palate, the whisky fuses maritime traits with Port cask depth. The nose carries fruity white wine notes intertwined with raspberry and vanilla fragrances, followed by a briny sea breeze. The texture is silky and creamy, filled with honeyed sweetness and red fruit, which then transitions into saltiness and peppery spice, finishing with a dry, well-defined, and expressive aftertaste.
