Bunnahabhain Debuts An Cuan Garbh No.1 15yo White Port Cask
The Deep Intertwining of Islay's Grand Seas and Portuguese White Port Casks
Located on the island of Islay, Scotland, the Bunnahabhain distillery has officially launched An Cuan Garbh No.1. This 15-year-old Single Malt whisky is the inaugural limited-release chapter of its Westering Home Collection 2026. The series name "An Cuan Garbh" means "The Rough Sea" in Gaelic, vividly depicting the majestic seascape surrounding Islay. Matured entirely on the island's northeast coast at Bunnahabhain Bay, it was finished in White Port casks from Portugal's Douro Valley. This expression not only leads the 2026 trilogy but also symbolizes the brand's deep emotional connection to the feeling of returning home.

A Masterpiece: Flavors Resonating Between Tradition and Innovation
Bunnahabhain's Master Blender Julieann Fernandez stated that An Cuan Garbh No.1 aims for a resonance between tradition and innovation. The use of White Port casks brings richness and a smooth mouthfeel. Official tasting notes highlight layered orchard fruit aromas, such as ripe peach and apricot, interwoven with toasted malt and delicate spices. Julieann emphasized that the White Port casks perfectly balance the sweetness of candied citrus and honeyed almonds. This exploratory liquid aligns with the annual theme, allowing whisky enthusiasts to experience the adventurous spirit of challenge, transformation, and discovery in every drop.
Cross-industry Collaboration and the Fèis Ìle Celebration
The distillery has also collaborated with wild-food chef William Rhys Hamer and photographer Bill Baillie to showcase Islay's vitality through local ingredients and creative lenses. William combines outdoor cooking with traditional crafts to transform the island's landscape into unique dining experiences. To celebrate the 40th Fèis Ìle (Islay Festival of Music and Malt) in 2026, Bunnahabhain will host a tasting dinner at the distillery on May 26th, featuring dishes meticulously designed by William. Subsequently, An Cuan Garbh No.2 and No.3 are expected to be released during the festival, available exclusively at the distillery and its official website.
