Jura 12YO Oloroso Edition: First Sherry Cask Series Debut

Embracing the Spirit of Sobremesa: Jura 12 Year Old Oloroso Edition Redefines Sherry Cask Flavor

Isle of Jura distillery recently announced the launch of the new Jura 12 Year Old Oloroso Edition. As the inaugural release in the distillery's brand-new collection, this whisky is positioned as a sherry-finished single malt, bottled at 46% ABV, emphasizing non-chill filtration and natural color. The production process begins in Jura's signature tall copper stills, aging first in American white oak bourbon barrels before being moved to Oloroso Sherry hogsheads (a blend of American and European oak) for a full finishing period.

A Tribute to Spanish Tradition and Andalusian Aesthetics

The inspiration for this whisky comes from the Spanish tradition of "Sobremesa," referring to the relaxed social time spent with friends and family after a meal. The distillery aims to convey the values of connection and sharing through this expression. In terms of packaging, while retaining Jura’s distinctive bottle silhouette, it incorporates Andalusian-style mosaic tile patterns, paired with a deep burgundy color scheme and embossed textures, paying homage to its Spanish Oloroso sherry cask origins.

Core Flavor Profiles: Honeyed Fruit, Caramelized Walnuts, and Dried Citrus

According to official tasting notes, this whisky perfectly blends the distillery’s balanced, fruity style with sweet, rich layers and complex nutty aromas. Core flavors include honeyed fruit, caramelized walnuts, and dried citrus. To lower the barrier to entry for the single malt world, the distillery continues its initiative from last year by clearly labeling three key flavor indicators on the back of the packaging for intuitive description.

Series Expansion Preview: Jura 15 Year Old Manzanilla Edition

Jura also teased the expansion of the series, with the second release, Jura 15 Year Old Manzanilla Edition, expected in September. This expression will also maintain natural color and non-chill filtration, utilizing Manzanilla sherry casks to deliver notes of sweet citrus, almonds, and a subtle sea breeze. Amid strong market demand for sherry cask whiskies, the distillery’s diversified use of oak casks successfully enhances brand recognition and competitiveness.
