Bruichladdich 25th Anniversary: Greener Still

Celebrating 25 Years of Reopening! Bruichladdich Presents Sustainable Release Greener Still

Located in Scotland's Islay region, the Bruichladdich distillery has officially announced the launch of its new limited-edition single malt whisky, Greener Still. This new creation is meticulously crafted to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the island distillery's rebirth, while focusing on the practices of environmental and social sustainability in Scotch whisky. Bottled at 51.6% ABV, this 15-year-old unpeated single malt Scotch whisky was matured entirely in first-fill Bourbon casks. The release marks the grand finale of the special trilogy created by the distillery to celebrate its 25th reopening anniversary, following earlier releases this year, Old Skool and Yellow Submarine III.

Exploring Farmland and Green Cultivation Philosophy

This latest masterpiece officially joins Bruichladdich's esteemed classic Still Series. The series previously featured Blacker Still, Redder Still, and Golder Still between 2006 and 2008, showcasing the distillery's avant-garde experiments in aging across Sherry, Bordeaux, and Bourbon casks. However, the new Greener Still shifts its exploratory focus from oak casks to farmland, celebrating green cultivation and sustainable distillation philosophy. The expression blends three distinctive barleys: organic Scottish-grown barley free from artificial additives; biodynamic barley from Yatesbury House Farm, a carbon-negative farm in Wiltshire, England; and ancient Bere heritage barley cultivated in Orkney in partnership with the Agronomy Institute of the University of the Highlands and Islands.

A Steadfast Commitment to Decarbonizing Distillation Operations

As a traditional Victorian distillery not born with inherent environmental advantages, Bruichladdich has continuously explored effective ways to reduce its environmental footprint over the past two decades. From regenerative agriculture, anaerobic digestion, and low-carbon biofuel experiments to actively exploring renewable heating solutions like Green Flame, the distillery demonstrates its firm resolve to fully decarbonize its distillation operations. Head Distiller Adam Hannett noted that Greener Still showcases the pure character of barley. The various barleys impart a unique texture, spice, and rich malty profile to the spirit, which—complemented by first-fill Bourbon casks—releases aromas of soft lavender, honeysuckle, toasted oak, and orchard fruits. The palate features a complex weave of juicy ripe pear, cinnamon, chocolate fudge, and honeyed citrus, leading to a long, smooth finish with a hint of fresh sea breeze.
