Angus Dundee Fills First Cask at New Chinese Distillery
Combining Scottish Craftsmanship with Jiangnan Aesthetics: New Whisky Landmark at Thousand Island Lake Officially Begins Production
Angus Dundee Distillers has announced a major milestone with the successful filling of the first cask at its Chun’an Malt Whisky Distillery in China. This ceremony marks the official transition of the facility from the construction phase to production operations, a significant move for Angus Dundee, owners of the Tomintoul and Glencadam Scotch whisky distilleries. The new distillery is located in Chun’an, overlooking the scenic Thousand Island Lake.
Iain Lochhead, Director at Angus Dundee Distillers, stated: "Chun’an Distillery is a unique opportunity to combine Scotland’s whisky heritage with one of China’s most inspiring natural landscapes." He continued that the region was chosen for its stunning lake and mountain scenery, which the site's design reflects by incorporating local Jiangnan Huizhou architectural aesthetics, where every detail has been meticulously crafted.
Inheriting Traditional Scottish Single Malt Techniques
The company emphasized that the distillery will utilize traditional Scottish single malt production processes, including distillation in copper pot stills, strict yeast management, precise cut points, and a diverse oak cask maturation program. This move places Angus Dundee alongside other major spirits companies like Diageo in establishing whisky production facilities in China to capture the country's growing demand for spirits.

Lochhead added: "The ceremony to fill our very first cask represents a defining moment for our operations in China.
