SMWS 推出 A Belter for America 慶祝蘇格蘭重返世界盃

SMWS Launches 'A Belter for America' for FIFA World Cup 2026

28 Years in the Making: SMWS Celebrates Scotland’s World Cup Return

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) has announced the release of a limited-edition whisky, A Belter for America, to celebrate the Scottish national team's return to the FIFA World Cup stage in 2026 after a 28-year hiatus. This 35cl small-format whisky is designed specifically for fans traveling to the USA this summer, making it easy to carry abroad. Scotland has not participated in this major football event since the 1998 World Cup in France. Breaking tradition, SMWS has made this release available to all whisky enthusiasts, not just members, allowing everyone to witness this historic moment.

A Fusion of Sherry Cask Maturation and Football Culture

This whisky underwent additional maturation in Sherry casks, offering layers of dark roasted coffee beans, chocolate, caramel, and dried fruits. The label design depicts the decisive overhead kick goal against Denmark at Hampden Park that secured Scotland's path to qualification. The name is a clever tribute to the song "Letter to America" by the Scottish band The Proclaimers. Coming from Distillery 28, the number coincidentally echoes the 28-year wait of the fans, deeply connecting football culture, local spirit, and whisky craftsmanship.

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait: The Spirit of SMWS

Julie Roberts, Innovation Manager at SMWS, noted that while Scotland's qualification was a long time coming, like a fine whisky, good things are worth the wait. Founded in 1983, SMWS is dedicated to promoting Single Cask spirits, and this limited release is part of the society's celebration of Scotland's return to the world stage. As the 2026 FIFA World Cup is hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, A Belter for America will accompany fans in bars or on trans-oceanic journeys to toast this long-awaited football festival.
