SMWS Launches Caskmaster 2026 Blind Tasting Competition
Pushing Sensory Limits: SMWS Launches the First Caskmaster 2026 Blind Tasting Competition
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) has announced a brand-new blind tasting competition, "Caskmaster 2026," aimed at finding the top whisky taster in Europe. This marks the Society's first blind tasting championship held in the UK, inspired by the success of similar events hosted by SMWS Australia. Open to both members and non-members, the competition challenges participants to showcase their sensory acuity.
A Rigorous Format Testing Sensory Skills
The competition is a true test of the senses. Participants must identify 8 out of 9 carefully selected Society drams within 30 minutes, relying solely on smell and taste. No discussion or communication is allowed during the process. Preliminary rounds across the UK will take place from August to September in Members' Rooms in various cities. The top 5 scorers from each session will advance to the Grand Final held at The Vaults in Edinburgh.
