The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) has announced the launch of a new limited-edition blended malt whisky, The Five Regions, to welcome Scotland's exciting May whisky festivals. Every May, numerous events take place across Scotland, including Islay's famous music and malt festival Fèis Ìle, the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, and the Campbeltown Malts Festival. Coupled with World Whisky Day on May 16, this month serves as an annual feast for the whisky world.

The Best of Scotland: The Balance of Maturation Craftsmanship

This 11-year-old blended malt, named The Five Regions, is bottled at 50% ABV. Its defining feature is the convergence of the five main Scottish whisky regions: Campbeltown, Speyside, Islay, Lowlands, and Highlands. Regarding maturation, the brand utilized a combination of Bourbon casks, Oloroso Sherry casks, Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, and HTMC (Heavily Toasted Medium Charred) hogsheads to create a liquid of immense depth and balance.

Flavor Profile: An Inspiring Exploration Beyond Tradition

In terms of flavor, this new release features sweet aromas of butterscotch donuts, candied cherries, and caramelized apple slices, intertwined with unique notes of wood varnish, teak oil, nutmeg, and star anise. Since its founding in Edinburgh in 1983, SMWS has championed the philosophy of flavor over tradition. Labels often omit distillery names, instead using evocative titles like Post-bonfire Bath Bomb or Eau d’Archive to guide drinkers through pure olfactory and gustatory exploration.
