Located in Nagano, Japan, the Kiyokawa Distillery recently held a launch event at the historic Fujiya Gohonjin restaurant to officially unveil its first single malt whisky, The Cask, First Edition. This Single Cask expression is bottled at Cask Strength of 61.1%, marking the first milestone for the distillery after years of quiet dedication. A Deep Dialogue Between Local Barley and Sherry Casks

Matured for three years in ex-Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, the core feature of this whisky is its use of 100% local barley. This barley is grown by the distillery's own farming team in the Iiyama region, in collaboration with local agricultural institutes to develop a unique variety capable of thriving in extreme climates—from heavy winter snow to scorching summer heat. The distillery's commitment to local materials extends beyond the liquid; the packaging emphasizes sustainability, featuring locally sourced glass and labels made from handcrafted Washi paper infused with barley husks, highlighting a deep connection to the land.
