dekantā 11th Anniversary: First Marsala Cask with Kiyokawa

Blending Italian Craft with Nagano Terroir: Kiyokawa x dekantā 11th Anniversary Edition

Renowned Japanese whisky retailer dekantā is celebrating its 11th anniversary by collaborating with Nagano Prefecture's Kiyokawa distillery to release Kiyokawa The Cask – dekantā 11th Anniversary Collector’s Edition. This single malt is particularly significant; it is not only an exclusive selection for dekantā’s anniversary but also the second official bottling from Kiyokawa, the first Japanese distillery to emphasize a "Farm-to-bottle" philosophy. Specifically chosen from cask number 11, this release is limited to only 348 bottles, offering collectors a rare taste of the emerging distillery's early maturation profile.

The Farm-to-Bottle Commitment: Kiyokawa’s Artistry

Located in the mountain farms of Iiyama, Nagano, Kiyokawa distillery’s production is deeply influenced by founder David Troiano’s Italian heritage. In a Japanese whisky industry that values terroir, this distillery insists on monitoring the entire process—from barley cultivation and fermentation to distillation and bottling—all on-site. The distillery utilizes unique Italian Garbellotto wooden washbacks with fermentation times extended to eight days, and rare Italian Frilli stills. This fusion of Italian tradition and Japanese agricultural spirit aims to create a robust spirit with distinct character, fully embodying its unique brand philosophy.

Marsala Cask Maturation: Layers of Warmth

This limited Single Malt is matured in a first-fill Marsala oak cask, showcasing exceptional depth. These casks were hand-selected by the founder in Sicily, having previously aged wine for years using the traditional In Perpetuum system. Bottled at 54% ABV, the whisky reveals notes of dried fruits, walnuts, citrus peel, and caramel sweetness, while maintaining the pure character of Kiyokawa spirit. The nose offers aged sweet wine and spices, while the palate intertwines rich malt, caramel, and dark plum, leading to a long, warming finish. Non-chill filtered and naturally colored, it is a masterful blend of Iiyama terroir and Italian bloodlines.
