Coleburn Distillery's First Whisky Series Wins Multiple Awards

Debut Series Stuns International Competitions, Historic Scottish Distillery Reopens for a New Chapter

Coleburn Distillery, located in Speyside, Scotland, has recently shared good news as its inaugural Local Heros whisky series turns heads in international competitions. All three blended malt whisky expressions in the series not only received a 1-star rating at the Great Taste Awards but also won medals at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), demonstrating outstanding liquid quality and a unique style.

The Local Heros series consists of three expressions: Sherry Bomb, Sweet Peat, and Big Smoke. Among them, Sherry Bomb and Big Smoke claimed silver medals at the IWSC with scores of 92 and 91 respectively, while Sweet Peat earned a bronze medal with 88 points. Official tasting notes indicate that Sherry Bomb is filled with rich flavors of honey, strawberry, cinnamon, and dried fruit, offering a well-defined structure with a fruity finish.

Coleburn Distillery has been owned by D&M Winchester Ltd since 2004. The parent company has deep roots in the Scotch whisky industry, specializing in malt and grain whisky sourcing, warehouse management, and bottling services. Currently, it manages approximately 20,000 casks across multiple locations, continuously providing comprehensive professional solutions for independent brands and bottlers.

Creating a Whisky Resort to Pioneer a New Tasting Experience

Dale Winchester, co-owner of D&M Winchester, stated that the numerous awards won by the debut series are the ultimate recognition of the distillery's quality and character. As the distillery gradually reopens, future plans will combine new visitor experiences and hospitality facilities to create a unique destination blending whisky, fine dining, and the local community, continuously expanding new horizons in the Scotch whisky experience.

The overall development plan for the distillery is steadily progressing. Applications have already been submitted to the relevant authorities to set up a new warehouse tasting area within the historic former stillhouse. At the same time, construction on the brand-new on-site restaurant, The Kitchery, has also begun, with official opening expected by the end of the year, further realizing the grand vision of establishing the first whisky resort.
