Bunnahabhain Unveils First Westering Home Collection Release Turas Math No.1 in the US

Renowned Scottish whisky distillery Bunnahabhain is delighted to announce the US debut of its brand-new Westering Home Collection series, starting with the limited edition single malt Bunnahabhain Turas Math No.1. This single malt whisky blends 15-year-old spirit finished in Manzanilla sherry casks with whisky aged in Amarone casks, aiming to showcase the distillery's deep maritime heritage.

Bunnahabhain officially launched this high-strength whisky, bottled at 55.9% ABV, on August 28th, marking the first release in its annual trilogy. The distillery's Master Blender, Julieann Fernandez, meticulously crafted this non-chill filtered whisky, drawing inspiration from a tribute to the distillery's maritime traditions.

The uniqueness of Turas Math No.1 lies in its double cask maturation journey. One portion of the whisky spent 15 years maturing in Manzanilla sherry casks in Jerez, Spain, providing a crisp, structured beginning. Another portion was matured for 10 years in refill casks before undergoing a five-year finishing period in Amarone wine casks from Veneto, Italy, imparting rich, deep flavors. Julieann Fernandez stated, "With Turas Math No.1, I wanted to capture the feeling of embarking on a journey – one filled with anticipation, contrast, and discovery. The Manzanilla cask brings a crisp, structured start, while the Amarone finish offers a rich, lingering depth. Bringing them together at Bunnahabhain Bay, allowing both whiskies to mature by the sea, creates a single malt that is layered, harmonious, and deeply rooted in our sense of place.">

Turas Math, meaning 'good journey' in Scottish Gaelic, echoes the whisky's theme of exploration and seafaring. Each future release within the Westering Home Collection will represent a different stage of a journey.

Bunnahabhain distillery has been producing single malt whisky on the remote northeast coast of Islay since 1881. Unlike most Islay distilleries, Bunnahabhain focuses on producing unpeated whiskies, highlighting the coastal character of its spirit. The new Westering Home Collection marks a new chapter for the distillery's premium offerings, with future releases continuing to explore innovative cask combinations while retaining Bunnahabhain's signature coastal flavor.
