Bruichladdich Appoints Former Tour Guide Adam Hannett as New Master Blender
Bruichladdich distillery has officially appointed Adam Hannett as its new Master Blender, an achievement he "never imagined" since joining the distillery in 2004. Hannett, a local of Islay, has served at Bruichladdich for the past two decades. He joined the distillery in 2004 as a tour guide, steadily climbing the ladder through his hard work and learning ability, and succeeded Jim McEwan as Head Distiller in 2015.
In an interview, Hannett stated that when he initially joined the company, he absolutely did not expect to become Master Blender. However, he believes his personal promotion is a "testament" to the distillery, as the company values providing employees with "opportunities to learn and grow." He recalled his early days as a tour guide; despite the title, he was exposed to many other facets of the distillery in his first few months, allowing him to learn deeply about every stage from mashing and distilling to cask management. He seized every opportunity, accumulating rich experience, especially under the guidance of former Head Distiller Jim McEwan, a period he found crucial. He feels honored by his current position and excited for the next phase.
In recent years, Hannett has played a pivotal role in the distillery's experimental product development and limited edition bottling, overseeing the launch of Bruichladdich's Octomore series, its first Islay rye whisky, and its barley-centric innovative product line.
Furthermore, Hannett has been central to driving Bruichladdich's sustainability efforts. The distillery has achieved B Corp certification and is committed to eliminating fossil fuels from its distillation process by 2030.
Regarding the distillery's future development under his leadership, Hannett indicated that fans can "watch this space." He emphasized that he enjoys considerable creative freedom in innovation, with new plans always in motion. 2026 will mark the 25th anniversary of the distillery's revival, with a series of exciting plans to celebrate this milestone. He believes this will not only attract new consumers but also serve as a way to thank and celebrate the loyal fans who have been with the distillery for the past 25 years.
