Bruichladdich Unveils Black Art Sapero Global Travel Retail Exclusive Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Rémy Cointreau's Bruichladdich brand has officially launched its new global travel retail-exclusive single malt Scotch whisky, Black Art Sapero, heralding the start of a new multi-chapter series. This rare 19-year-old whisky made its global debut this month in partnership with Lotte Duty Free Singapore at Singapore Changi Airport T4. The initial one-month exclusive launch period began on November 4 and will continue through the end of December.
What sets Black Art Sapero apart is its departure from Bruichladdich's usual transparent style, with only Head Distiller Adam Hannett privy to all the mysterious details regarding the whisky's origin, barley variety, and cask maturation. This 19-year-old whisky has an ABV of 47.8% and its entire maturation process took place within the distillery on Islay, utilizing undisclosed casks.
According to the brand's official tasting notes, the aroma features notes of dark chocolate, citrus zest, and black cherry. The palate reveals layers of malt, maple syrup, and caramelized brown sugar, accompanied by rich spice notes and a subtle minerality. Hannett commented, "The Black Art series has always encouraged embracing the unknown, and the creation of Sapero is a result of complete trust in the maturation journey. I relied on intuition and experimented with our rarest casks, with every decision transcending logic and rules. The final result is a truly mysterious and unforgettable whisky, inviting you to taste, explore, and ultimately, trust the enigma."
Bruichladdich's first Black Art was released in 2012, and this new series is now exclusively for global travel retail. In the future, Black Art Propheta and Black Art Empresse are slated for release in November 2026 and 2027, respectively.
To commemorate the launch, Bruichladdich and Lotte Duty Free Singapore have created an immersive 'The Library of Secrets' experience at Changi Airport, featuring a giant book installation with a touchscreen, a vintage telephone for listening to pre-recorded messages from Hannett, and interactive bookshelf displays.
Purchasers can personalize luggage tags, and travelers who successfully register for a Black Art passport and collect stamps stand a chance to win a reward an opportunity to meet Hannett at the Bruichladdich distillery on Islay. Fida Bou Chabke, Global Travel Retail Executive Director at Rémy Cointreau, emphasized, "The launch of Black Art Sapero marks a significant milestone for Bruichladdich in the global travel retail sector. By limiting this exceptional series to this channel, we offer travelers a truly unique experience – a whisky born from mystery, masterful craftsmanship, and trust."
