Berry Bros. & Rudd Unveils Second Exclusive Private Cask Collection
Renowned wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd proudly launches the second selection of its esteemed Private Cask Collection.
The highlight of this release is 25 exclusive 62-liter octave casks, containing precious single malt whiskies and premium rums. Octave casks, measuring about one-eighth the size of a traditional whisky cask, significantly increase the surface area of the spirit's contact with the wood. This accelerates flavor development, leading to a richer, more concentrated tasting experience. Each octave cask is expected to yield up to 90 bottles, offering clients a highly personalized option, allowing them to add a special message to the bottle label.
This selection features single malt whiskies from top Scottish distilleries and select premium rums, all undergoing a secondary maturation in octave casks. These casks previously held fortified wines, including a variety of traditional types such as Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, Fino, Moscatel, and even the rare Palo Cortado, imparting unique flavor layers to the spirit.
Johnny Roberts, Brand General Manager at Berry Bros. & Rudd, stated that these casks were meticulously chosen by their expert whisky connoisseur, Felix Dear, from an extensive collection of single casks. After years of careful maturation, they have reached an exceptional and rare moment of maturity. He emphasized that this offers clients a unique opportunity to bottle their own cask, capturing and passing down a one-of-a-kind flavor profile.
The fortified wine cask maturation in this release brings rich flavor characteristics. For instance, Oloroso casks impart a full-bodied texture with notes of dried fruit and dark chocolate, while Moscatel offers delicate floral notes and the sweetness of raisins.
All spirits are bottled at cask strength in Scotland, using Berry Bros. & Rudd's bespoke bottles which incorporate 40% recycled materials. The packaging also includes several sustainable elements, such as biodegradable shrink-wrap and FSC-certified cartons and labels, reflecting the brand's commitment to environmental responsibility.
Berry Bros. & Rudd has already offered this collection to its existing private clients and will make it available to the public at a later date. Furthermore, more casks are expected to be released in early 2026.
