Arran Distillery Releases First Official 30-Year-Old Single Malt
Isle of Arran Distillers is proud to unveil its first official Arran Single Malt 30 Year Old, marking a thirty-year milestone since the Lochranza Distillery began production in 1995. This limited edition release is capped at just 300 bottles, drawn from ex-Sherry hogsheads selected by Distillery Manager Stewart Bowman. It is bottled at 46% ABV without added colour or chill filtration. This remarkable whisky was distilled on September 12, 1995, and bottled on October 13, 2025.
Euan Mitchell, Managing Director of Isle of Arran Distillers, stated, We are incredibly proud of every member of our distillery family to launch the first official Arran 30 Year Old Single Malt in our history. It is not only our oldest release to date but a celebration of the people, place, and perseverance that have shaped the birth of Arran whisky. It stands testament to the dedication of our team over the past three decades and the enduring spirit of our island home.
Official tasting notes describe the whisky as having aromas of burnt orange, star anise, and cinnamon, with notes of toasted oak. The palate offers hints of honey, ripe orchard fruits, vanilla, and clove, with a finish of sweet toffee apple and orange peel.
The Lochranza Distillery was founded by Harold Currie during a period of uncertainty for Scotland’s whisky industry, with many distilleries closing. His foresight saw the return of whisky production to the Isle of Arran after over 150 years of dormancy. Today, the distillery attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually and operates alongside its sister distillery, Lagg Distillery, in the south of the island.
Earlier this year, on June 29, whisky enthusiasts gathered in Lochranza to commemorate the moment thirty years ago when the first spirit flowed from the stills. To celebrate the anniversary, the company offered fans the chance to purchase Palo Cortado Sherry casks filled with Arran Cask Strength.
The Arran 30 Year Old features packaging crafted from dark, natural wood, accented with copper metal detailing that echoes the distillery’s copper stills. Looking ahead, Isle of Arran Distillers plans to refresh its core range in 2026, with the discontinuation of the current 18 and 25 Year Old expressions. A permanent 30 Year Old Arran Single Malt will join the core range, with a global launch in key markets planned for Summer 2026.
