The team behind the planned Scotch whisky distillery Ardrishaig Distillery has announced that planning permission for their craft distillery and visitor experience centre was officially approved on 25 September by the local Argyll and Bute Council. Led by John Moore, this project marks a crucial milestone in the overall regeneration of the Ardrishaig waterfront in Scotland.

Derelict Oil Depot Remediation and Architectural Highlights
The planned distillery will occupy a long-abandoned former oil storage depot. Having suffered from years of industrial activity, the site faced substantial environmental and land contamination challenges. This redevelopment initiative will directly tackle the site contamination, restoring idle brownfield land for productive use. Designed by Organic Architects, the facility seamlessly blends whisky production with an engaging visitor experience.
According to the architectural plans, beyond housing an operational whisky distillery, the development features dedicated spaces tailored for guided tours and tastings. Additionally, auxiliary amenities such as courtyards, terraces, and a conservatory will be built to offer future visitors a complete leisure setting.

Revitalising the Waterfront Community Ahead of Next Year's Launch
Bari Reid, director at Organic Architects, commented on the approval, explaining that the project's intention is to provide people with more reasons to stop and spend time in Ardrishaig, contributing positively to village life while crafting whisky. He added that discovering a constructive future for such a challenging piece of land is particularly rewarding.
The first phase of Ardrishaig's waterfront regeneration previously saw the successful reopening of the adjacent Steamer Terminal, laying the groundwork for ongoing coastal development. With planning permission now secured, the team's focus shifts to ground remediation and construction on the former industrial site, with distillery production scheduled to commence next year.
