Product Details

Yoichi 10 Years Old is a significant return following Nikka's brand rejuvenation. This whisky strictly adheres to the Yoichi Distillery's signature 'coal-fired direct heating distillation' method. This traditional technique imparts deeper, more powerful flavours to the spirit at high temperatures. Matured for 10 years in the rigorous climate of Hokkaido, the liquid absorbs the essence of the surrounding forests and sea, resulting in a balanced and layered tasting experience.

Read More Brand Story

The Yoichi Distillery was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, 'The Father of Japanese Whisky.' Its location in Yoichi, Hokkaido, was chosen because the environment, humidity, and climate closely resemble those of the Scottish Highlands. Mr. Taketsuru believed that only in this cold, northern climate, coupled with high-quality peat and clear water sources, could truly powerful single malt whisky be produced.

The most celebrated craftsmanship is the 'coal-fired direct heating distillation.' While most modern distilleries use steam heating, Yoichi maintains the tradition of manually stoking the coal fires. This method is notoriously difficult to control, requiring experienced craftsmen to constantly adjust the heat. However, it is this extremely high-temperature heating that creates subtle scorched notes and deep layers of complexity in the spirit near the base of the stills, resulting in the irreplaceable smoky charm of Yoichi 10 Years Old. The 2023 bottling of Yoichi 10 Years Old is not just a testament to high quality but also a tribute to this nearly century-old legacy.
