-----------------
Pommard is located in Burgundy's Cote de Beaune. The general impression of Pommard is producing more powerful, rich Pinot Noir. Since Pommard does not have Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru is currently its highest classification.
Hospices de Beaune is actually a hospital. In 1457, a woman named Guillemette Levernier donated a vineyard to the hospital. Since then, others have followed suit, and now there are over 60 hectares of vineyards, with over 85% being 1er Cru or Grand Cru in Cote de Beaune. Therefore, most 'hospital wines' are of very high quality. The auction is held on the third weekend of November each year, and the proceeds are used for the hospital and other charitable purposes (I'll believe it when they say it).
2010 was an above-average vintage for Burgundy.
P.S. The label Cuvee Dames de la Charite indicates who donated the vineyard; this one was donated by the Dames.
P.S. It is heard that more Chinese buyers have participated in auctions in recent years, and prices show signs of being inflated.

Official general tasting note
Rich imperial purple colour. The nose has a delicious mix of fine red fruits and currants. There is some fine dark berry fruit at the front of the palate with lifted dark cherry fruit defining the second half of the wine. A fine masculine wine with a lot of depth and complexity
