The Suntory Hibiki series was born in 1989 to commemorate Suntory's 90th anniversary. 'Hibiki' means 'resonance' in Japanese, representing the perfect harmony between man and nature, tradition and innovation. Japanese Harmony is the non-age statement (NAS) entry in the series, crafted by fourth-generation Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo.
One of the most striking features of this whisky is its bottle design. The iconic 24-facet glass bottle represents the 24 solar terms of the traditional Japanese calendar, symbolizing the slow maturation of whisky through the changing seasons. The label uses traditional Echizen Washi paper, with the character 'Hibiki' written by calligrapher Tansetsu Ogino, reflecting deep Japanese cultural heritage.
The blending process utilizes various cask types, including American White Oak, rare Mizunara, and Sherry casks. Mizunara imparts unique sandalwood and incense notes, while Sherry casks bring rich fruitiness. This whisky does not pursue the dominance of a single trait but seeks 'Perfect Balance,' making it a classic enjoyed by both beginners and connoisseurs.
