Bodegas Contador (鐘樓) was created by the legendary Spanish winemaker Benjamin Romeo. This genius is also a perfectionist, involved in every stage of winemaking, even personally driving to select the oak trees for the corks.
The flagship wine, Contador, received high praise with a 98-point rating from Robert Parker in 2000, and the 2004 and 2005 vintages consecutively achieved 100 points.
This 'Carmen' is not part of Bodegas Contador's core range; it is named after his mother and crafted using a more modern approach.
It is a very complex wine, rich with notes of chocolate, vanilla, coffee from the oak aging, and leather from maturity, while still retaining intense fruit and acidity to support the structure.
Wine Spectator vintage charts describe the 2007 Rioja vintage as a 'Cool growing season; many light wines'.
However, this wine is definitely not light; you can try it with confidence.
Given it's a weaker vintage, it is recommended to drink it soon rather than storing it for too long.
