Wemyss Malts Smoky Shores 14 Year Old Limited Release
Dual Coastal Single Malts Unite to Deliver Maritime Salinity and Deep Peat Smoke
Edinburgh-based independent bottler Wemyss Family Spirits has officially unveiled its latest blended Scotch whisky, Wemyss Malts Smoky Shores 14 Year Old. Bottled at 46% ABV and strictly limited to 3,552 bottles globally, this new expression marks the very first age-stated regular follow-up in the brand's widely acclaimed Smoky Shores series.
This blended malt is crafted by selecting two distinctly styled coastal single malt whiskies. The first hails from a classic Scottish distillery long celebrated for its heavily peated malt, imparting bold and intense smoky notes. The second is an uncommon find from a coastal distillery typically known for unpeated spirit. Master Blender Isabella Wemyss curated and blended the liquid from a small parcel of hogsheads, masterfully playing contrasting peat profiles against each other to redefine Smoky Shores' signature maritime brine and smoke.
14-Year Maturation and Flavour Profile
After 14 years of oak cask aging, the whisky glows with a warm, creamy golden hue. On the nose, coastal brine interweaves deeply with dense peat smoke, releasing vibrant sea-salt aromas as soon as it is poured into the glass, carrying a mature, nuanced smokiness rather than an aggressive sting. On the palate, medicinal peat and sea salt lead the entrance, followed by delicate orange zest that lifts the overall profile and ensures the rich smoke never overwhelms the whisky's multifaceted layers.
Commenting on the new release, Isabella Wemyss, Master Blender at Wemyss Malts, remarked: "Smoky Shores resonated strongly with whisky drinkers from the day it debuted, and I always knew there was further ground to explore within this concept. Fourteen years of maturation has allowed the spirit to evolve, while holding on to everything people loved about the original profile—the salinity, the smoke, and that crisp citrus finish."
Wemyss Malts has long been dedicated to thoughtful, patient blending. This bottling continues the core signature established by the original non-age-statement Smoky Shores released in 2022. The prolonged maturation not only intensifies the maritime savory depth, but crisp citrus fruit notes also strike a harmonious balance with the peat, highlighting the nuanced synergy between coastal single malts and oak cask aging.
