Tsingtao Teams Up with Great Northern for Irish Whiskey

Chinese Beer Giant Expands into Spirits, Partnering with Irish Distillery to Enter Asian Market

Chinese beer giant Tsingtao has reached a long-term partnership agreement with Ireland's Great Northern Distillery to introduce Irish whiskey to the Asian market. Both parties will collaborate to develop whiskeys tailored to the tastes of Asian consumers and plan to build a brand-new whiskey distillery in China.

Under the agreement, Great Northern Distillery will supply Tsingtao with a full range of mature Irish whiskeys, ranging from 3 to 21 years old, to be distributed through Tsingtao's extensive distribution network in China. The two parties have also formed a professional blending team to create exclusive flavors tailored to Chinese consumer preferences, while Great Northern Distillery will provide technical support for the distillery Tsingtao is building in China.

Capitalizing on the Rise of the Middle Class to Craft Asian-Exclusive Flavors

Founded in 2014 by John Teeling, Jim Finn, and David Hynes in Dundalk, Ireland, Great Northern Distillery is one of the region's largest distilling groups. Chairman John Teeling stated that Irish whiskey's smooth texture and subtle sweetness make it ideally suited for the Asian market, expressing confidence that the rise of Asia's middle class will drive demand for international premium spirits.

Despite recent export challenges for Irish whiskey, the local industry generally views China as a new growth market with immense potential. Irish government officials have also praised the partnership, noting that it not only deepens bilateral economic and trade relations but also lays an important foundation for the diversified development of Irish whiskey in the global market.
