Thompson Brothers Launch Crowdfunding to Build World's Most Eco-Friendly Whisky Distillery
The Thompson Brothers, based in Sutherland, Scotland, have launched a crowdfunding campaign to build Struie Distillery, which they claim will be the world's most environmentally friendly whisky distillery. Located in Dornoch, the new facility will use patented technology and renewable energy to achieve zero carbon emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2. The distillery, located less than 200 meters from the existing Dornoch Distillery, aims to increase production capacity by 20 times while maintaining high-quality products.
Phil Thompson, co-founder of Thompson Brothers, stated that their vision is to create a distillery that not only produces exceptional spirits but also sets new environmental standards for the industry. The crowdfunding campaign aims to raise funds through the support of whisky enthusiasts and create long-term employment opportunities for the local community.
Struie Distillery's design combines past, present, and future thinking, featuring unique still and condenser designs and relying entirely on on-site renewable energy. This patented technology is expected to make Struie Distillery one of the most energy-efficient distilleries in the world.
In addition to environmental benefits, the project will have a significant economic impact on the region, creating 10 new jobs and attracting approximately 12,000 visitors annually to Dornoch. Dornoch is renowned for its famous Dornoch Castle Hotel whisky bar and the world-class Royal Dornoch Golf Club.
Since its establishment in 2016, Thompson Brothers has built a strong reputation for its single malt whisky, independent bottling, and gin products. This crowdfunding initiative is part of a larger investment plan by Thompson Independent Traders Limited, which also includes Dornoch Castle Hotel, Dornoch Distillery Company Limited, and Thompson Bros' independent bottling and blending operations.
