The Dalmore Unveils 30, 34 & 45 YO Madeira Cask Set

Partnering with Portugal's Blandy's for the Final Chapter of Cask Curation, Limited to 150 Sets Worldwide

Highland single malt distillery The Dalmore has announced the fourth and final release in its limited Cask Curation Series: The Dalmore Cask Curation Series: The Madeira Cask Edition. Celebrating the distillery's mastery of multi-cask maturation, this edition was created in collaboration with the historic Blandy's Madeira—a family winery spanning seven generations and over two centuries of heritage. Featuring three vintage single malt Scotch whiskies aged 30, 34, and 45 years, only 150 sets are available worldwide, launching at select retailers later this month.

Maturation Profiles and Finishing Cask Specifications

All three expressions spent decades maturing in American white oak ex-bourbon casks before being finished in distinct Madeira pipes. The 30 Year Old (49.3% ABV) matured in bourbon casks for 29 years before finishing for eight months in a 2010 Terrantez Madeira pipe. The 34 Year Old (44.5% ABV) spent over 33 years in bourbon casks followed by an eight-month finish in a 2018 Bual Madeira pipe. The 45 Year Old (40.7% ABV), representing the oldest release in the entire Cask Curation Series, matured for 44 years in bourbon casks before completing its journey with a three-month finish in a 2012 Malvasia Madeira pipe.

Distinct Flavor Expressions Imparted by Madeira Styles

Each Madeira variety brings a distinct character to the whisky. Terrantez, a rare medium-dry style, imparts fresh citrus, aromatic spices, and dried fruit to the 30 Year Old. The richer Bual style bestows complex notes of dried fruits, honey, exotic woods, and warming spice upon the 34 Year Old. Finally, the lusciously sweet Malvasia style infuses the 45 Year Old with deep dark forest fruits, spiced Seville orange peel, dark chocolate, toffee, and a delicate hint of licorice.

Dr Kirstie McCallum, Master Whisky Maker at The Dalmore, highlighted that the 30 Year Old captures the distillery's signature sweet citrus and nutty profile balanced with exotic spice; the 34 Year Old offers enticing dried fruit and rich wood notes; and the 45 Year Old achieves exquisite harmony between the sweetness of Malvasia and the aged spirit. Francisco Albuquerque, Master Winemaker at Blandy's Madeira, noted that the collaboration perfectly embodies both houses' shared commitment to craftsmanship, tradition, and innovation.

First introduced in 2023, the Cask Curation Series celebrates the distillery's partnerships with renowned winemakers worldwide, tracing the journey of exceptional casks to the Scottish Highlands. Blandy's Madeira remains dedicated to traditional winemaking methods, including the renowned Canteiro aging process, imparting extraordinary depth and complexity to their wines and casks.
