ASC (SMWS Parent) FY2025 Revenue Hits by US & Asia Slump
Resilience Amidst Challenges: ASC Navigates Global Volatility and Channel Transformation
The Artisanal Spirits Company (ASC), owner of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS), has released its 2025 financial report, showing a double-digit decline in total annual revenue. The company attributed the downturn primarily to severe disruptions in the US market, including a 43-day government shutdown and a change in distribution models in the fourth quarter that led to large-scale cancellations of shipments before Christmas. Despite the global economic and political instability weakening consumer demand, the company described these results as a demonstration of resilience under challenging conditions.
Brand Acquisition and Revenue Diversification Strategy
Beyond its flagship SMWS, ASC's portfolio includes Single Cask Nation, the US independent bottler acquired in 2024, along with the JG Thomson brand and the Artisan Casks private cask program. Despite the drop in overall revenue, the company made significant progress in diversifying its income streams, with growth recorded in cask sales, physical venue operations, and the performance of Single Cask Nation. However, these gains were not enough to offset sharp declines in Asian markets, where the environment in China remains particularly difficult. CEO Andrew Dane believes the challenges in Asia are cyclical rather than structural, noting emerging signs of market stabilization.

Membership Development and Emerging Market Presence
Regarding membership, global totals remained stable in 2025, with slight growth in Europe. Subscription numbers in the Americas held steady, while Asia saw a slight overall decrease despite member growth in China and Japan. Looking ahead, Andrew Dane stated the company will continue to strengthen its presence in emerging international markets with high potential for premium spirits appreciation, such as India and Vietnam, while focusing on enhancing member engagement.

The company plans to drive revenue diversification further through Single Cask Nation and trade cask operations. By optimizing its operating platform and cost efficiency, ASC aims to capture opportunities as the market environment improves, remaining focused on promoting unique, high-quality whisky products and experiences.
