Rosebank 31 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky Wins Top Shelf Awards 2025 Best Spirits
Rosebank 31 Year Old Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, produced by Rosebank Distillery, has won the highest honor of "Best Spirits – Whisky" at the Top Shelf 2025 awards ceremony hosted by the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC). This award recognizes this single malt Scotch whisky, distilled before 1993, as one of the world's finest whiskies, marking a significant moment for the recently revived Falkirk distillery.
This award-winning whisky, with an ABV of 48.1%, was distilled before the original Rosebank distillery closed and aged in refill oak casks for over three decades. It is part of the Rosebank Legacy Trilogy series, which also includes 30 and 32-year-old expressions from the distillery's silent period.
Neil Bulloch, Distillery Manager at Rosebank, stated, "This award is an incredibly important moment for everyone connected with Rosebank. The 31-year-old represents the very best of the spirit that was created before the distillery ceased production. Our responsibility now is to carry that unique flavor forward as Rosebank embarks on a new chapter."
Leonard Russell, Chairman and Owner of the family-owned business Ian Macleod Distillers, added, "Rebuilding the Rosebank distillery is a commitment to one of Scotland's most revered whisky styles. To see a whisky from its silent period acclaimed as the best in the world is profoundly meaningful. It is a tribute to the artisans who crafted the original liquid all those years ago and to those who have helped bring the distillery back to life."
Previously, this whisky had garnered accolades including "Best Single Malt Scotch Whisky 20 Years and Over", "Best Single Malt Scotch Whisky", and "Best Scotch Whisky Overall". Judges at the SFWSC described the competition's "Best Spirits" winner as "the pinnacle of quality and artistry".
The Legacy Trilogy bottlings are the last of the precious whiskies drawn from casks distilled before 1993 remaining at the distillery. According to official notes, Rosebank 31 Year Old presents a pale gold hue with aromas of citrus, smooth vanilla, and candied almonds on the nose. The palate offers notes of chamomile, berries, and baked banana, with a finish of sweet peach and oak.
Rosebank, revered as the King of the Lowlands, was founded in 1840 but closed in 1993, only to be revived in 2023. Its owner, Ian Macleod Distillers, completed a four-year reconstruction project, enabling the distillery's renaissance and current production of new spirit.
There is a limited remaining quantity of Rosebank 31 Year Old.
