Nikka Celebrates 90 Years with Limited Edition Whisky
Nikka celebrates its 90th anniversary with the launch of the limited edition Nikka Nine Decades 90th Anniversary Limited Whisky. This global blend harmonizes whiskies from nine decades, from the 1940s to the 2020s, carefully selected from six of Nikka's distilleries, including Scotland's Ben Nevis Distillery. Over 50 batches were chosen to represent Nikka's tradition and future, featuring the oldest malt whisky reserves from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, as well as new grain whiskies from Moji and Satsumastukasa. These whiskies were masterfully blended to achieve perfect balance.
Bottled at 48% ABV and non-chill filtered, this whisky maximizes its unique flavors and enhances its rich texture. The bottle design employs Edo-bori, a glass engraving technique originating from Tokyo (formerly Edo), inspired by Western sandblasting. The distinctive bottle shape was initially designed for THE NIKKA 40 years old, released for Nikka's 80th anniversary in 2014, symbolizing Nikka's accumulated tradition and heritage.
On the nose, rich apple pie and raisin sweetness are accompanied by aged cask aromas, leading to gentle smokiness and nostalgic antique furniture notes, creating a complex bouquet reminiscent of a whisky aging warehouse. The palate offers a robust oak foundation with spicy cinnamon, roasted nuts, and dark chocolate. Subtle peat bitterness balances sweet apricot jam and maple syrup, evoking the warmth of a fireplace. The finish wraps gentle peat in a full-bodied embrace, with sweet and sour flavors leading to a pleasantly bitter, lingering aftertaste.
