The Peaty Soul of Yoichi: Nikka's New Global Milestone

Nikka Whisky Distilling Co, a subsidiary of Asahi Group, has announced that Nikka Frontier, launched to celebrate the brand's 90th anniversary, will officially enter international markets this month. Initially released in Japan in October 2024, the first phase of the overseas expansion will begin in South Korea and France, with plans to roll out across the European market later this year. Alongside this release, the brand has also introduced the limited-edition Nine Decades blended whisky to commemorate ninety years of illustrious history.

A Fusion of Pioneering Spirit and Heavy Peat

Nikka Frontier was developed as a tribute to the pioneering spirit of founder Masataka Taketsuru. The heart of this whisky comes from the Yoichi Distillery in Hokkaido, founded in 1934, utilizing its iconic heavy peated malt. The recipe features over 51% malt whisky, delivering rich malt aromas and a distinctive smoky character. Bottled at 48% ABV in a 500ml size, it is non-chill-filtered to preserve its most authentic flavor profile.

Artisanal Design and Global Strategy

The bottle design is rich in detail, featuring an 'N' emblem on the front and a traditional Japanese 'shimenawa' rope motif embossed on the back, honoring the founder's family brewing roots. To ensure stable global supply, Nikka invested approximately 7 billion yen in 2025 to build a new cooperage and maturation warehouses at the Yoichi Distillery. Furthermore, the brand signed an agreement with South Korean distributor FJ Korea last year, demonstrating its ambition to expand internationally while continuing its 90-year legacy of craftsmanship.
