Islay Festival 40th Anniversary: Mac-Talla Unveils Limited Cognac Cask Whisky

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Scotland's renowned whisky festival, Fèis Ìle (The Islay Festival), the Islay single malt brand Mac-Talla, owned by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, has announced the launch of Mac-Talla Cognac Fèis Ìle 2026. This special edition pays tribute to the historic event. Since its inception in 1986, Fèis Ìle has grown from a local cultural and music festival into a global annual highlight, drawing thousands to Islay for 10 days of celebrations.

The Perth-based Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers family has deep roots in Islay spanning four generations. Mac-Talla aims to showcase the distinct characters of various distilleries across the island. Production Director Graeme Mackeddie noted that Fèis Ìle is a pivotal moment for the whisky community. To mark the 40th year, the distillery created a release that honors Islay tradition while embracing innovation, selecting Cognac casks to blend fruity notes with the whisky's natural peat smoke and sweetness.

This Mac-Talla Cognac Fèis Ìle 2026 was initially aged in first-fill Bourbon barrels before being finished in Cognac casks for two years. Bottled at 52.4% ABV, it is non-chill filtered and naturally colored. Official tasting notes reveal aromas of sweet almond croissants and orchard fruits; the palate features layers of freshly baked pastries, stewed pears, and toasted coconut, concluding with a finish of classic peat smoke and winter spices.
