Straight-Neck Stills Enable Precise Spirit Flavour Control
Loch Lomond possesses a versatile new-make spirit production capability, spanning both peated and unpeated styles, while producing both single grain and single malt whiskies. It stands as the only distillery in Scotland to operate both traditional swan-neck pot stills and straight-neck pot stills side by side. Rather than relying solely on wood maturation to determine the whisky's final profile, the distilling team leverages straight-neck stills to meticulously shape the spirit's character, harmonising the wood's influence.
This technique endows Loch Lomond single malt whiskies with distinctive fruit, honey, and gentle smoke notes. Among the distillery's extensive core expressions, Master Blender Michael Henry cites Loch Lomond 12 Year Old Perfectly Balanced as his personal favourite, representing the quintessential profile of the distillery.

Master Blender's Background and Equipment Heritage
Michael Henry was born in Northern Ireland, studying biology and chemistry during his school years and experimenting with home brewing. He graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Brewing and Distilling, completing an internship at Northern Ireland's Bushmills distillery during his studies, before working for over a decade at Bass Brewery and Tennent’s Brewery in Glasgow. He joined the Loch Lomond blending team in 2007, pioneering flavour experimentation through long fermentation times and unique distillation gear.
The straight-neck pot stills operating today were originally introduced by former owner Duncan Thomas in 1966. Spanning nearly six decades of evolution, this setup remains the foundational pillar supporting the brand's multifaceted spirit character.
