Jack Daniel’s Ltd. Special Release Small Batch Rye Whiskey

Exploring Lynchburg's Cellar Secrets: Special Release Small Batch Rye Debuts

Tennessee-based distillery Jack Daniel’s has recently unveiled the highly limited Special Release Small Batch Rye. This series consists of five batches of high-strength Tennessee Rye Whiskey, sourced from 129 barrels across three cellars in Lynchburg. This release marks the brand's continued exploration of its rye whiskey program, offering a rare choice for enthusiasts seeking ultimate flavor depth.

Maturation Across Three Legendary Cellars

These five batches were selected from 129 barrels barreled between 2016 and 2017, with an average maturation of 10 years. The whiskey aged in three distinct locations: Coy Hill, Boiler Hill, and Fire Brigade Fields. While Coy Hill is already renowned, the latter two are newer maturation sites. All bottles are presented at Barrel Proof, ranging from 142.7 to 146.1 proof, showcasing the raw power of the spirit.

Master Distiller Unveils: Flavor Depth of Hidden Treasures

Master Distiller Chris Fletcher stated that this project aims to showcase the innovation within the rye whiskey category. The team targeted "hidden treasures"—barrels with yields too low for regular bottling but exhibiting intense character. Fletcher emphasized how the maturation site and time combined to create the rich style and complexity unique to Jack Daniel’s.

Golden Grain Ratio and Signature Profile

The mash bill features 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley, following the brand's signature charcoal mellowing process. Tasting notes describe aromas of black pepper and charred oak, accompanied by spice and caramel, with a finish of cinnamon, leather, and butterscotch. This limited release further elevates the brand's position in the premium rye market.
