The Glenlivet 12YO Provence Edition: 3 French Casks

Beyond Speyside Series Welcomes 12-Year-Old Expression Matured in Provence White Wine, Rivesaltes, and Sauternes Casks

Pernod Ricard's single malt Scotch whisky brand The Glenlivet has announced the release of 12 Year Old Provence Edition. This limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky represents the newest expression in the distillery's Beyond Speyside series and has officially launched in selected markets worldwide.

Crafted by a team of cask experts led by Cask Master Kevin Balmforth, this single malt marks the first time The Glenlivet has utilized French white wine casks in its whisky maturation. The spirit underwent a finishing process across three distinct styles of French wine casks, including white wine casks from Château Sainte Marguerite—one of only 18 estates classified as Cru Classé des Côtes de Provence—harmoniously blended with Rivesaltes and Sauternes oak casks.

Flavor Profiles of Three French Oak Casks & Official Tasting Notes

Each cask imparts unique flavor dimensions to the whisky: Château Sainte Marguerite white wine casks contribute citrus and floral nuances; Rivesaltes casks offer nutty notes and warm spices; while Sauternes casks impart rich citrus marmalade and crème brûlée undertones. The synergy of these three casks layers complex orchard fruit and delicate floral aromas atop The Glenlivet's signature distillery profile. Official tasting notes highlight abundant flavors of white peach, nectarine, pear, and citrus.

Kevin Balmforth commented that the team aimed to take The Glenlivet in an exciting, unexpected direction with the Provence Edition, noting that the challenge lay in introducing Provence-inspired flavor nuances while preserving the unmistakable identity of The Glenlivet. He added that by actively monitoring the finishing process and meticulously balancing the contributions of Château Sainte Marguerite, Rivesaltes, and Sauternes casks, the distillery produced a whisky showcasing vibrant orchard fruit, refined floral notes, and exceptional complexity. Aurélie Torre, Vice President of Marketing for Specialty Whiskies, noted that this single malt captures the spirit of The Glenlivet—grounded in Scottish craftsmanship and enriched by the essence of Southern France.

The expression previously earned a Gold Medal at the 2026 Scotch Whisky Masters, an achievement Aurélie Torre described as testament to the quality, craftsmanship, and innovation at the heart of this single malt. Distilled in Scotland's Livet Valley and owned by Pernod Ricard, The Glenlivet stands as one of the world's best-selling single malt Scotch whisky brands. For its packaging, the Provence Edition features lavender hues and gold accents, complemented by the brand's iconic turquoise tone.
