Glengoyne Teapot Dram Batch 12: Limited 3,300 Bottles

Bottled at 59.2% Cask Strength | 100% First-Fill Sherry Casks Honoring the Ration Tradition

Highland distillery Glengoyne has unveiled the latest edition in its highly sought-after series, Teapot Dram Batch No. 12. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 59.2% ABV, this non-age statement single malt Scotch whisky is globally limited to 3,300 bottles, officially released on October 8, 2026.

Every release of the Teapot Dram series is matured entirely in first-fill sherry casks, paying homage to the distillery's historical daily dram tradition, delivering an intensely deep hue and rich character. Batch No. 12 was vatted from a select parcel of casks, including European oak Oloroso butts, European oak Oloroso hogsheads, and sherry hogsheads. Presented non-chill filtered and with natural color just like all Glengoyne bottlings, it contains zero added caramel coloring.

Official Tasting Notes

According to the distillery's official tasting notes, the nose reveals aromas of toasted marshmallows, cinnamon, toffee popcorn, Demerara sugar, strawberry sweets, and a hint of spearmint. The palate is luscious, bright, and sweet, showcasing raspberry coulis, blackcurrant, baked apple, dates, and rich sherry wood sweetness. The finish is long and enduring, layered with soft tannins, stewed dark berries, and toffee sauce.

The Heritage Behind the Copper Teapot Ration

The history behind this expression dates back to the 1960s and early 1970s, when Glengoyne upheld the daily dram tradition, providing workers with three generous glasses of whisky per day. While most Scottish distilleries offered fiery, unaged new-make spirit, Glengoyne treated its team to mature, heavily sherried whisky. Younger distillery workers unable to handle the hearty drams discreetly poured their rations into a copper teapot sitting on the canteen windowsill for older colleagues to enjoy. As the day progressed, the teapot accumulated a unique blend of vibrant sherry cask whiskies. This rationing practice ceased in 1974, and the Teapot Dram series continues to honor this heritage with its opulent, sherry-rich profile.

Highland Distillation and Lowland Maturation

Founded in 1833 in Dumgoyne north of Glasgow, Glengoyne has operated continuously ever since. The distillery boasts a unique geographical setup: its stills sit in the Highlands, while the maturation warehouses stand across the road in the Lowlands, creating Highland single malt matured in the Lowlands. Glengoyne is owned by the independent family-run firm Ian Macleod Distillers, which acquired the distillery in 2003 from The Edrington Group.
