Celebrating the Bicentenary: Glencadam Brand Refresh and Calvados Limited Edition Launch

Glencadam Distillery has recently announced a comprehensive brand packaging update alongside the release of the limited edition 17 Year Old Réserve de Calvados single malt whisky. This packaging evolution marks a significant milestone as the distillery celebrates its 200th anniversary and the opening of its first visitor center in Brechin.

Hand-Drawn Design Revives Classics: Evolution, Not Revolution

The new packaging design will be applied to four core expressions, including Glencadam 10 Year Old, 15 Year Old, Reserva PX, and the new 17-year-old release. Created by Edinburgh artist Andrew Davidson, the hand-drawn illustrations depict the distillery as it appeared in 1825, incorporating the iconic "waterwheel" motif. Additionally, each bottle features embossing around the base and "EST 1825" engraved on the shoulder, paired with a branded wooden cork to further emphasize its heritage.

Limited to 6,360 Bottles: 17 Year Old Réserve de Calvados

Launching alongside the new look, the 17 Year Old Réserve de Calvados is limited to just 6,360 bottles worldwide, each individually numbered. This unique expression was initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in Calvados (apple brandy) casks from Normandy, France. Master Distiller Iain Forteath noted that the complex flavors brought by the Calvados casks are a perfect complement to Glencadam's signature fruity character.

Tasting Notes and Craftsmanship

Bottled at 46% ABV, this expression maintains its natural color and is non-chill filtered. Tasting notes describe aromas of baked apples, heather honey, and vanilla sponge cake dusted with cocoa powder. The palate offers apple tarte tatin, spiced fruits, and butterscotch, accompanied by delicate hints of dark chocolate and candied orange, fully demonstrating the distillery's commitment to traditional craft and high-quality whisky.
