GlenAllachie Unveils Third Meikle Tòir Turbo 2025 Edition
Scottish whisky producer The GlenAllachie Distillers Company proudly announces the release of its most anticipated peated spirit, a follow-up to previous editions that quickly sold out, sparking immense demand from whisky collectors worldwide.
The Meikle Tòir Turbo 2025 Edition is the third in the distillery's annual limited-edition peated whisky series. Launched on September 2nd, this release continues the distillery's tradition of producing heavily peated whisky for only six weeks each year.
This new expression features peat from St. Fergus and a carefully monitored production process to achieve its distinctive character. Master Distiller Billy Walker has captured a phenol content of 72 PPM, more than double the 35 PPM found in the core Meikle Tòir range.
The whisky underwent a 160-hour fermentation period and was then matured for five years in new oak and oloroso sherry hogsheads. The distillery states that this extended maturation period contributes to the complexity of the final product.
Billy Walker commented, “The Meikle Tòir range has always been incredibly well received, and each Turbo edition sells out at an astonishing rate. The uniqueness of the Turbo comes from us pushing the peat flavor to its maximum, while still allowing the signature heather honey character of the spirit to shine through.”
The distillery's peated whisky production accounts for only ten percent of its total spirit output, with approximately 100,000 litres produced annually. This limited production cycle makes the Turbo editions particularly sought after among whisky enthusiasts.
Official tasting notes describe its aroma as featuring manuka honey, toasted caramel, and smoked cedarwood. On the palate, it offers heather honey, toasted hazelnut, mocha, and burning oak flavors, with a finish of dark chocolate and damson jam.
This release follows two single cask Meikle Tòir bottlings launched in July. An online exclusive 6-year-old oloroso sherry hogshead sold out within 24 hours. A distillery exclusive 7-year-old Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead still has limited availability.
All Meikle Tòir range spirits carry a minimum of five years of age and are neither chill-filtered nor have artificial coloring added. The packaging design features artwork by Scottish illustrator Iain McIntosh and utilizes locally sourced materials from the UK to reduce environmental impact.
The Meikle Tòir brand represents Billy Walker's first distillation project since acquiring GlenAllachie in 2017. Since then, he has continually refined the production process to create what the company describes as a “bolder, peatier spirit.”
The Meikle Tòir Turbo 2025 Edition is now available at The GlenAllachie Distillery and its online store, with global distribution to follow.
