The Glasgow Distillery Unveils First 10YO Peated Whisky

Glasgow 1770 Marks 10 Years of Peated Maturation with Cask Strength Bourbon Release

Scottish whisky maker The Glasgow Distillery has announced the launch of its first-ever 10-year-old peated expression, Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky, marking a decade since the distillery began peated production.

This new Scotch whisky is strictly limited to 550 bottles and bottled at a cask strength of 54% ABV. The release is married from three ex-bourbon barrels—two refill barrels and one first-fill barrel—making it the first single malt from the distillery's inaugural 2016 spirit distillation to complete a full decade of maturation.

Ex-Bourbon Cask Maturation and Flavor Profile

The distilling team specifically chose full ex-bourbon maturation to keep the spotlight firmly on the underlying spirit character, creating a clean and distillate-forward flavor profile. The whisky delivers delicate campfire smoke, honeyed sweetness, tropical fruit, and citrus notes, accompanied by a subtle waxy texture and enduring oak spice.

Sebastian Bunford-Jones, Head of Sales & Marketing at the distillery, noted that reaching a decade of maturation for their peated single malt represents an essential milestone. For this release, the team aimed to let the distillery's spirit profile speak for itself. Bourbon cask maturation perfectly highlights the evolution and nuances of the peated new make since 2016, showcasing notes of roasted pineapple, gentle smoke, delicate vanilla, waxy lemon, and dried orange peel.

Distillery's Peated Whisky Journey

The Glasgow Distillery commenced its core production in 2015, formally introducing peated single malt distillation in 2016. Peated whisky has since become an integral part of its production schedule, with the distillery currently dedicating a five-month production window annually exclusively to peated distillation.
