Fettercairn x Six°North Distillers’ Secret Whisky Launched

Fettercairn Distillery proudly announces its first collaboration with the nearby craft brewery Six°North, unveiling their exclusive single malt whisky—Fettercairn Distillers’ Secret. This limited edition whisky is sold exclusively at Fettercairn’s Highland distillery, blended from two specific oak casks personally chosen by Distillery Manager Stewart Walker and Distiller Bruce Aitken.

Stewart Walker remarked that this partnership reflects Fettercairn’s continuous pursuit of curiosity and exceptional flavor. He views Distillers’ Secret as a truly special small-batch release, designed to celebrate the collaboration and the essence of the locality, while providing a delicious dram. He emphasizes that due to its rarity, this spirit should not be missed.

The liquid is a marriage combining two distinctly styled oak casks. One cask is a former Cabernet Sauvignon barrel from Bordeaux, which arrived at the distillery in 2019. Crucially, this barrel was previously used by Six°North to mature a 'fruity Belgian-style pale ale'. Six°North Brewery is located in Laurencekirk, the same village as Fettercairn.

In 2019, this utilized oak cask was filled with Fettercairn whisky distilled in 2007, which originally matured in a refill American oak hogshead. After four years of finishing, distillery staff identified the spirit’s unique 'floral character'. Subsequently, in 2025, this batch was combined with a 2007 vintage first-fill ex-bourbon barrel.

The official tasting notes describe the aroma featuring 'golden honey, Muscat grapes, sugared almonds and soft patisserie spice'; the palate delivers 'grapefruit, caramelised pecans, passion fruit, and mixed citrus peel', leading to a long finish of orchard fruits. This bottling is presented at 54.9% ABV.

Fettercairn Distillery, established in 1824 at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains in the Scottish Highlands, is renowned for pioneering the use of the copper cooling ring—an industry first—which helps create its signature fresh, tropical flavor profile. The partnership with Six°North allowed both parties to exchange knowledge and explore different flavor landscapes.
