Underground Historical Alley Makes a Stunning Debut! A Rare, High-Age Release Strictly Limited to 238 Bottles Worldwide

Located beneath Edinburgh's famous Royal Mile, the renowned whisky attraction The Lost Close has officially announced the release of The Lost Close No. 3, a high-age single grain whisky from the North British Distillery, debuting in a deeply historic setting and capturing the attention of whisky enthusiasts everywhere.

Distilled in Edinburgh in December 1995, this precious whisky matured for thirty years in a single refill hogshead before being bottled at an ABV of 44.6%. Because single grain whiskies are predominantly used for blends, it is extremely rare for a single cask to reach such an advanced age, making this global release of just 238 bottles highly collectible.

Cross-Industry Collaboration & Official Tasting Notes

The selection of this cask was carried out in collaboration with Chris Cusiter, CEO of independent bottler CASC Whisky Ltd and former Scottish rugby international. Cusiter noted that the whisky not only boasts an elegantly balanced flavor profile, but also carries thirty years of silent maturation history and a strong local terroir connection, perfectly showcasing the intertwining of time and space.

Founded in 1885 and officially operational in 1887, the North British Distillery boasts a rich history. According to official tasting notes, the expression offers a fresh, ester-driven aroma accompanied by green apple and underripe pear, while the palate blends butterscotch, toffee, and fresh coconut, finishing with a pleasant citrus nuance.

The Legendary Alley Lost to Great Fire

Katie Scott, Head of Events and Experiences at The Lost Close, pointed out that this expression perfectly aligns with their brand ethos of valuing strong storytelling. The attraction itself is situated within a historic alleyway swallowed by the Great Fire of Edinburgh in 1824 and rediscovered only in 2019, adding an extra layer of legend to this rare whisky.
