Edinburgh's The Lost Close Releases Second Single Cask Whisky
Edinburgh's underground whisky tasting venue The Lost Close, in partnership with independent bottler Fragrant Drops, has proudly launched The Lost Close No. 2. This is a 25-year-old single grain whisky from the dismantled Port Dundas Distillery. It marks the second exclusive limited edition whisky released by the Edinburgh venue, with only 190 bottles produced.
Sourced from a single refill bourbon barrel, this whisky has an ABV of 57.6%. Port Dundas Distillery was a historic Lowland producer but was dismantled in 2011, making whisky from this distillery increasingly rare. According to official tasting notes, the whisky offers aromas of anise and vanilla extract. On the palate, it initially presents a 'spicy warmth' before developing into a sweetness akin to marzipan and fruit pastilles.
Katie Scott, Head of Experiences and Events at The Lost Close, stated, “The Lost Close No. 2 now joins our Luxury Whisky Tasting experience and has received an overwhelmingly positive response from customers so far. It is bold, distinctive, and adds a new layer to the experience we offer in our historic underground tasting rooms.”
This release follows The Lost Close No. 1, a 29-year-old single grain from Strathclyde Distillery launched in 2024, the first limited edition of which has already sold out. Sara Kern, Assistant Manager at The Lost Close, shared, “Personally, I feel single cask single grain whiskies are perfect for highlighting cask complexity, which is fully evident in The Lost Close No. 2.” She added, “It’s a powerful spirit, which you’d expect at 57.6% ABV, but it finishes smoothly thanks to 25 years in the cask.” Rachel Dixon-Keeble of Fragrant Drops lauded The Lost Close for selecting another single grain whisky. “Single grain whiskies have long been denigrated or overshadowed by the spotlight on single malts. Now, with the advocacy of independent bottlers and fantastic venues like The Lost Close, both new and old whisky drinkers are embracing these wonderfully creamy, toffee-laden drams.” The Lost Close No. 2 is exclusively available at The Lost Close, located in Barrie’s Close, off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.
