Duncan Taylor unveils limited-edition 42-year-old Bowmore 1982 single malt whisky

Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky recently introduced a highly collectible 42-year-old Bowmore 1982 single malt whisky, part of its exclusive Rarest Reserve series. This whisky originates from the Islay distillery and reflects over forty years of careful maturation.

The Bowmore 1982 42 Year Old Rarest Reserve began its aging process in October 1982, entirely in an ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry cask. The extended maturation gives this whisky a deep resinous gold hue, bottled at 50.8% cask strength, making it one of the oldest Bowmore releases in Duncan Taylor's history.

The Rarest Reserve series represents the most unique offerings from Duncan Taylor's prized casks. This 42-year-old Bowmore comes in the series' signature gold-striped packaging, bottled in a 100ml format. This small-bottle design debuted last year with the company's 33-year and 52-year Macallan releases, allowing whisky enthusiasts to experience rare aged expressions at a lower cost.

In terms of flavor profile, the extended maturation in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks has created a remarkably balanced whisky that combines Islay's characteristic peatiness with the sweetness imparted by the sherry cask. Decades of aging have resulted in complex layers of subtle peat smoke, maritime elements, and dried fruit characteristics.

Duncan Taylor CEO Shawn Smith stated that following the success of last year's Macallan Rarest Reserve, the company plans to release several premium whiskies this year, with Bowmore being the first. He emphasized that this release will give Bowmore enthusiasts an opportunity to taste rare malt whisky at a more accessible price point.
