2026 Whiskey Master Exams in Scotland & Monique Huston

A New Milestone for Whiskey Certification: 2026 Master Examinations Move to the Scottish Highlands

The Council of Whiskey Masters recently announced that the highly anticipated annual Master Examinations will be held from October 6th to 9th, 2026, in Pitlochry, Scottish Highlands, Scotland. The venue selected is the historic Atholl Palace Hotel. Approximately 30 advanced candidates will undergo rigorous testing to earn the Master of Scotch, Master of Bourbon, or Master of Whiskey certifications—the highest honors in global whiskey professionalism.

The Master Examinations represent the pinnacle of whiskey certification. The assessment combines a challenging blind sensory evaluation with deep technical knowledge of whiskey production, history, and analysis. All candidates must complete the Council's remote study program before attending the in-person exams to ensure a solid theoretical foundation.

Leadership Change: Monique Huston Appointed Board Chairman

Regarding leadership changes, the Council announced that Monique Huston has been appointed Board Chairman, succeeding Bernhard Schäfer, Steve Beal, and Martin Duffy. Monique Huston currently serves as Vice President of Spirits at Winebow and holds the Keeper of the Quaich honor. She is committed to raising global professional standards through rigorous education. The outgoing chairmen will remain involved as Chairmen Emeritus and continue to serve as examiners.

The Council of Whiskey Masters boasts a powerful team of experts, including industry legends such as Rachel Barrie, Dave Broom, Charles MacLean, Stephanie Macleod, and Richard Paterson. To support candidates, the Council offers a 1-on-1 mentorship system and training groups led by Adam Edmonsond, with intensive courses taught by masters like Paul Pacult. Founder Jörn Kleinhans emphasized that this certification validates true depth of knowledge, helping students advance their careers through merit.
