Loch Maberry Series Chapter Three Bottled at Cask Strength, Celebrating a Love Story Sparked by the Distillery

Scotland's oldest privately owned distillery, Bladnoch, has announced the release of Chapter Three in its limited-edition Loch Maberry: Stories of Bladnoch series. The collection pays tribute to individuals with deep ties to the Lowland distillery, inviting them to handpick a whisky that reflects their personal journey.

This Bladnoch Loch Maberry: Stories of Bladnoch – Chapter Three single malt Scotch whisky was distilled in November 2017 and matured for 8 years in an ex-Cognac hogshead. Bottled at a cask strength of 58.9% ABV, only 458 bottles are available worldwide.

In terms of flavor profile, the distillery notes aromas of apricot jam and rich muscovado sugar on the nose. The palate opens with layered notes of marmalade, apricot, and delicate warming spices, delivering a rich, rounded, and comforting finish.

Distillery Friends Hand-Select Cask to Celebrate Enduring Love

The focal figures behind this release are married couple Roddie Burgess and Elaine Burgess. Invited to the distillery, they sampled various single cask samples alongside Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage, ultimately selecting this 8-year-old ex-Cognac hogshead for its warming and welcoming character. The couple shared that having met on a day that began at Bladnoch, the distillery has permanently woven itself into their lives, and seeing their journey commemorated on a bottle is truly special. Dr Nick Savage added that this ex-Cognac cask offers lush notes of apricot, orange marmalade, and lingering sweetness—echoing the words of their wedding minister that some things only grow richer with time.

Following Chapter One’s homage to a lifelong supporter and Chapter Two’s focus on ancestral roots, Chapter Three turns its spotlight to love. After attending the distillery’s Waterfall Day festival with his friend Iain, Roddie met Elaine—visiting Galloway for solace—at a hotel in Newton Stewart, where they bonded over having both recently lost their spouses. Months later, Iain crossed paths with Elaine in Northumberland and passed along Roddie’s contact information, setting in motion a romance that culminated in marriage. At their ceremony, a minister from Tennessee honored Scottish custom by pouring Bladnoch from a traditional quaich, celebrating a union that, like fine whisky, improves with age.
