Benromach Launches 12-Year-Old First-Fill Sherry Cask Whisky
Fully Matured in First-Fill Sherry Casks at 46% ABV with Subtle Smoke, Joining the Core Lineup Alongside 15 and 21YO
Located in Scotland's Speyside region, the Benromach Distillery has officially announced the addition of a brand-new flagship single malt Scotch whisky to its core range—Benromach 12 Year Old. This new expression will sit alongside the distillery's existing 15-year-old and 21-year-old single malts as an integral pillar of the permanent portfolio, scheduled to arrive later this month.
Bottled at 46% ABV, this Benromach 12 Year Old Speyside single malt Scotch whisky has been matured entirely in first-fill Sherry casks. The distillery highlights that full maturation in first-fill Sherry casks imparts a rich, deep flavour profile while meticulously preserving the brand's signature subtle peat smoke character.

Classic Speyside Subtle Smoke and Tasting Profile
According to official tasting notes, the whisky opens on the nose with warm aromas of spiced cinnamon buns and stewed raisins. On the palate, it reveals rich fruitcake, vibrant raspberries, and Seville orange notes, accompanied by a touch of cracked black pepper before culminating in an elegant, gentle whisper of smoke on the finish.
Murdo Mackenzie, Distillery Manager at Benromach, noted that this release marks a key milestone for the distillery. As inventory has matured, introducing a 12-year-old single malt has long been an ambition—creating a whisky of remarkable depth and complexity while remaining true to their signature subtly peated Speyside style. Bottling at 46% ABV further highlights the spirit's natural texture, character, and depth of flavour. Stuart Urquhart, Operations Director and fourth-generation family member, added that the team poured immense care into crafting this whisky to revive the richness and delicate smoke that once defined Speyside malts. He also reassured fans of Benromach 10 Year Old that the 10-year-old will remain permanently available.
Centuries-Old Heritage and Revival of Traditional Craft
Founded in 1898, the Benromach Distillery is nestled in the historic Speyside town of Forres. In 1993, the distillery was acquired by esteemed family-owned independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail, undergoing meticulous restoration before reopening in 1998. Over the decades, the distillery has stayed committed to time-honoured traditional craftsmanship to produce award-winning whiskies, dedicated to reviving the classic Speyside character with its signature touch of delicate smoke.
