Gordon & MacPhail Unveils CRN57° Blended Malt Scotch Whisky Range, Offering a Taste of Future Single Malt Flavors
Scotland's renowned Gordon & MacPhail, through its The Cairn Distillery, invites consumers to taste the future today with its new CRN57° blended malt Scotch whisky series, which previews the flavor profiles of the distillery's future single malts.
The CRN57° series, expertly crafted by The Cairn Distillery's whisky maker Stuart Urquhart, features liquid drawn from Gordon & MacPhail's extensive aged stock. The distillery's location within the iconic Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands, at 57 degrees North latitude, inspired the CRN57° name.
The series offers a tasting journey, allowing whisky enthusiasts to preview the flavors of the distillery's single malts set to be released in 12, 18, 25, 30, and 40 years. A premium offering extends the tasting experience to 57 years, and even includes the world's oldest blended malt Scotch whisky – a 70-year-old CRN57°.
Additionally, a non-age-statement (NAS) expression called CRN57° Vision aims to echo the distillery's vision for future single malt Scotch whiskies. Tasting notes range widely from 'sweet and sour chocolate orange and banana' to 'toffee and strawberry cream'. Younger blended malts exhibit sweet, fruity, and nutty notes, while the premium expressions showcase citrus, spice, and mint characteristics.
Stuart Urquhart stated that the CRN57° series not only reflects the distillery's heritage and location but, more importantly, allows consumers to experience the future flavor of The Cairn's single malts decades in advance, citing a 70-year-old single malt planned for official release in 2092.
He emphasized that the concept of CRN57°, much like ancient cairns that inspire new paths, aims to unlock flavors in a modern, minimalist way, encouraging people to experiment with curiosity. 'You don't have to be a whisky connoisseur to enjoy our whisky, you just need a curious mind and a desire to try something new,' he said.
