Ardnahoe Distillery Unveils Limited Edition Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Islay-based Ardnahoe Distillery has launched the third bottling in its core range – the Cask Strength Edition. This five-year-old Islay single malt Scotch whisky has been fully matured in first-fill bourbon barrels. The limited new release will be bottled at 60.9% ABV, marking the first batch from the distillery’s planned ongoing series.

The brand officially describes the whisky’s aroma as featuring ‘coastal salinity, peat smoke and rich cocoa’. Its palate is said to offer notes of ‘orchard fruits, vanilla tea and salted caramel’, finishing with ‘a smoky undertone with a citrus backbone’. David Livingstone, Ardnahoe Distillery Manager, stated, ‘This is the third bottling from our core range and it is truly significant, a real milestone for the distillery. Cask strength whiskies are bottled directly from the cask without dilution, delivering more intense flavour characteristics and allowing drinkers the freedom to dilute to their personal preference.’

The Cask Strength Edition joins Ardnahoe’s previously released core range expressions, Bholsa, matured in Oloroso sherry casks, and Infinite Loch, matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks.

Ardnahoe Distillery is owned by Hunter Laing, a Glasgow-based independent bottler with a long history in the Scotch whisky industry, and began production in 2018. It became the ninth operational distillery on the Isle of Islay, an island renowned for its heavily peated single malt whiskies. The distillery officially opened to the public in 2019. The launch of its core range, including this cask strength offering, marks a key milestone for the young producer, whose inaugural release went live in May 2024. Ardnahoe Distillery will host a launch event on October 30th, featuring a tasting and signing by Livingstone himself.
