Ardbeg Unveils Vintage_Y2K 25YO Final Edition
First-Ever Finish in Spanish Tempranillo Wine Casks Concludes the Millennium Revival Series Using Historic Still Spirit
Islay distillery Ardbeg has officially unveiled the third and final release of its limited Vintage_Y2K series, Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K 25 Year Old single malt whisky, marking the concluding chapter of a pivotal milestone in the distillery's history.

Bottled at 48% ABV, this 25-year-old single malt Scotch whisky was initially matured in ex-bourbon casks before being finished in Tempranillo red wine casks from Bodega Numanthia, a celebrated winery in northwestern Spain renowned for its ancient vines and intensely rich profile. This marks Ardbeg's very first time utilizing Tempranillo wine casks for maturation.
Flavor Profile and Blending Performance
On the palate, this wine-cask-finished whisky delivers a multi-layered profile of dense coffee, smoked fruits, and barbecue spare ribs dusted with paprika, seamlessly combined with Ardbeg's signature peat smoke and sweet chili pepper notes.
Dr Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg's Director of Whisky Creation, expressed that commemorating the distillery's revival in the year 2000 through the Vintage_Y2K series is an immense honor. He noted that as the oldest and rarest conclusion to the series, Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K 25 Year Old pairs precious spirit distilled just before the historic still's retirement with intensely flavorful red wine casks from Bodega Numanthia, showcasing the distillery's iconic character and pioneering innovation.
Ardbeg was rescued from closure in 1997 and resumed full production in 2000 following restoration. The Vintage_Y2K series was distilled during this transformative rebuilding era, harnessing the 51-year-old historic still that served the distillery for decades before being decommissioned in 2001, alongside newly introduced distillation techniques. The series previously featured a 23-year-old matured in bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, followed by a 24-year-old finished in bourbon and Amontillado sherry casks.
