Read More Brand History

Established in 1923 on the outskirts of Kyoto, the Yamazaki Distillery is Japan first whisky distillery. Founder Shinjiro Torii chose the Yamazaki site at the foot of Mount Tenno for its famous water source, Rikyu-no-Mizu, and its ideal humidity for maturation. Yamazaki 18 Years Old was first released in 1992 and quickly became a core gem of the brand. The soul of this whisky lies in its diverse malt blending, particularly the use of rare and expensive Mizunara Casks. Mizunara trees grow slowly and are porous, making them prone to leakage, yet they impart unique notes of sandalwood, agarwood, and tropical fruits after long maturation. Yamazaki 18 has won numerous gold medals at international competitions like the ISC and SWSC, and is globally recognized as one of the most balanced and elegant single malts in existence.
