Product Details
The mash bill for Wild Turkey 101 contains a higher proportion of rye, giving it a distinctive, spicy personality. The whiskey is aged for 6 to 8 years in No. 4 'alligator' char American white oak barrels, which imparts a deep color and rich flavor. Notably, this whiskey is bottled at 101 proof without chill filtration, preserving its raw bourbon character. It is a favorite among those who drink it neat and for classic cocktail lovers, often referred to as the 'bartender’s secret weapon.'
Read More About the Brand
The story of Wild Turkey began in 1940, when master distiller Thomas McCarthy took a barrel of his own whiskey on a hunting trip. After tasting it, his friends were amazed and suggested he bring it to market under the name 'Wild Turkey.' This brand, full of the untamed spirit of America, was born.
Today, Wild Turkey is helmed by legendary master distiller Jimmy Russell and his son Eddie Russell. Jimmy has been at the distillery since 1954, serving for over 70 years, making him the longest-tenured master distiller in the history of Kentucky bourbon. Together, they insist on traditional low-proof distillation and heavy-char oak aging, ensuring every drop of Wild Turkey retains its consistent richness and boldness. The distillery is located in Lawrenceburg along the Kentucky River and remains one of the few large bourbon distilleries still family-operated.
