Following the well-known Bannow Island & Ballykilcavan expressions, the Ballymorgan 1.1 has achieved an excellent score of 88 points from WF. This is a remarkable result for a distillery this young with such a low maturation period.
P.S. Each bottle features a Terroir Code on the back of the box. Entering this code on their website reveals incredibly detailed information, such as the exact number and type of casks used (including volume and filling dates), specific yeast strains, fermentation times, soil type and depth beneath the farm, and daily sunlight exposure—details you might find obsessively precise but fascinating! Official tasting for reference:
Nose:
Green apple, milk chocolate, malty, pears, dried fruits, rhubarb and custard – but with more custard than rhubarb.
Taste:
Green apple coated in caramel, cloves, custard – a spicy tingle, with liquorice and mint chocolate.
Finish:
A gentle heat lingers in your mouth and as it slowly fades; oiliness is left with a spicy chocolate.
